Does that shot off Goose's leg count?

Yes kids, the bachelor weekend came and went. We had a splendiferous morning of golf, as we piled into our GPS laden golf carts, perused the routes and started with the Goose Tourney. We soon found that the advanced technology did nothing to improve our game, though the topical overviews did bring a certain "Tiger Woods2k6" feel to the day. I did surprisingly well, for me that is. I learned what club to drive effectively with (surprisingly not my driver, but the 5 wood) I made a chip in, and three putts. (that's huge for me) On the plus side, my score did not even come close to my cholesterol, so I got that goin' for me...which is nice. Following the debacle listed as the title of this piece, (yes I took a golf ball to the leg on a strategically hit ball that went sideways) many attempts at "off-color" humor, (pun intended) and countless beers downed, we left and changed for the evening's events. This entailed a poker tournament, some food, more beer, and good times.

And now on to "Thank You".
-To "Seen Rhineholds" who celebrated his 1st anniversary with his wife a week prior and prolonged celebrating his birthday to plan my golf outing, spend 15 hours drinking and merrymaking with me, and generally making sure I had a great day, words do not express my gratitude my man.
-To his wife Claire, thank you, thank you, thank you, for being so understanding, and accomodating.
-To my brother-in-law Ryan and Honey's cousin Anthony, Thank you for organizing the party at the bar. You went through far too much trouble for me.
-To "Big Dave" a big thank you for not out-shooting me on the links;) I'm sure to overcome my injury!
-To Jeffy and Pandolfs, thank you for cracking me up with the "Um Goose...Jeffy Blew up the Golf Cart" phone call, and the many attempts at "off-color" humor, including the orange thing on your porch, and the secret meaning of arboreal growth in certain metropolitan areas.
-and finally to all who were able to sacrifice part or all of their Memorial Day Saturday, (you know who you are) I thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

X-Men: The Last Stand?

Hey kids, just got back from X-Men 3. It is no secret to those who know me, that the X-Men are my favorite comic book superheroes, and so I've been quite happy with these movies so far. Did I expect them to be an exact replication of the comics? Hell no. However, they are quite good at what they are meant to do...ENTERTAIN. This installment is no different. Therefore, was it a "perfect" film? Again, hell no. Then again, what does that even mean? Films are an artform and thus are not meant to be "perfect". On to my thoughts (spoiler free). My 2nd favorite X-Man Nightcrawler was in the last film, and I was thrilled, but my favorite, and so I suppose my favorite comic book superhero of all, Archangel was in this film. His role was small unfortunately, but still quite cool to say the least. I was happy with the Dark Phoenix portrayal, loved the "war" and had no real qualms. Excellent fun!! For anyone who insists on believing the wild Fox Studio claim that this is indeed the last stand, I say bullsh@*. You'll know from the end that the studio is not about to let this cash cow get away. For the next installment I have only 3 requests. Ahem... please bring back Nightcrawler and please show Archangel more, especially in battle (and maybe even using his healing blood somehow). Also, if it isn't too much trouble I'd love to see him with his blue skin, and blue and purple armor, with the metallic wings. Not so much as the agent of Apocalypse the whole time (or even at all), but post Apocalypse, when his mind was unscrambled (but before his real wings grew back, and he still kept that badass look and those cool powers). Ok that's it, no more geeking out. Oh wait one last "hint" Stay until the end of the credits for the real "ending". (wink wink)

There is noy joy in Gooseville...

Hey kids, by now I'm sure you've seen, heard, read about the tragedy that unfolded Saturday evening when my beloved Barbaro utterly shattered his rear right ankle. The doctor is optimistic but says that the promising colt might only have a 50/50 chance of survival. I was sick when I saw the ghastly injury, and can only wonder at what might have been.

-In other news, I'm prepping to hit the links tomorrow. It will be my first foray into the roughs and sandtraps this season and I can't wait! I'm hoping to shoot lower than my cholesterol, but as that number equals the GDP of Honduras, I think even I am safe.

Live a simple life in a quiet town...

Hi kids. Today, Honey surprised me by picking up The Raconteurs' debut album Broken Boy Soldiers. As readers can attest I have been waiting nearly 5-6months for this release from Jack White's side band. The single Steady As She Goes is fantastic and has been in my music library since I got a hold of it around the turn of the year. I have yet to listen to the rest of the album, but will report fully when I give it a few run throughs.

-In other news, The Preakness Stakes will be run this Saturday. As the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown look for Barbaro to roll through like a chestnut juggernaut. In fact I am cautiously optimistic that the giant colt will take the Crown this year. If so, and the 28 year curse is broken, remember you heard it hear first!

T minus one month and counting...

Hey kids, well it is now less than one month until my life is irrevocably changed for the better. Honey and I are rapidly approaching D-Day and things are hurtling forward at breakneck speed. I haven't spent too much time imagining how the day will go because I want it to be a totally fresh experience. One hint though...I saw Honey's photo for the newspaper, and well it nearly floored me. It wasn't like "wow she's pretty". Instead it was more like, "HOLY MOLEY...ubb bubbb... flubbb... can't form words...must be the luckiest man on earth to marry a woman that is this stunning". So I'm sure if you all see a blank stare on my face while at the alter as she is coming up the aisle, that's the reason. One look from those big blue eyes, and like always, I'll be rendered helpless. It is my own personal kryptonite.

And the winner of the roses is...

Hey kids, don't say I didn't give you the tip!! That magnificent giant of a horse, Barbaro blew the field away and made yours truly a happy bettor this evening!! In an aisde I must say the OTB being filled with The Sopranos extras is a wonderful start to a fantastic derby day. Enjoy your mint juleps and we'll get ready for the Preakness in a couple weeks!!

And They're Off...

Ok kids, here's the gate order and the odds for this year's derby:

1. Jazil 30-1
2. Steppenwolfer 30-1
3. Keyed Entry 30-1

4. Sinister Minister 12-1
5. Point Determined 12-1
6. Showing Up 20-1
7. Bob and John 12-1
8. Barbaro 4-1
9. Sharp Humor 20-1
10. A.P. Warrior 15-1
11. Sweetnorthernsaint 10-1
12. Private Vow 50-1
13. Bluegrass Cat 30-1
14. Deputy Glitters 50-1
15. Seaside Retreat 50-1
16. Cause to Believe 50-1
17. Lawyer Ron 4-1
18. Brother Derek 3-1
19. Storm Treasure 50-1
20. Flashy Bull 50-1

Now the question is: How is it going to wind up? Well that's anybody's guess, but here's my thoughts. Numbers 3 and 4 are both excellent horses, but being next to each other they'll chase one another and most likely will tucker themselves out by the end. I feel an intense challenge between number 17 and 18, and I think both colts will likely be in the money. However, my gut is telling me not to turn a blind eye from #8, and even though he'll start from the middle of the pack, I still feel good about him. So I think the winner will be Barbaro. Of course that is subject to change and I think it'll wind up being a betting window decision for me.

-In other news, I'm making a new CD and it has the following artists on it: The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, Artic Monkey, Mobile, Angels and Airwaves, Fallout Boy, The Postal Service, Hot Hot Heat, The Raconteurs and some others that I haven't finalized yet, but I'm excited about it nonetheless. I'll let you know when it's finito.
