Upon Further Review...

Hello kids, just as I said I watched more anime. A good friend recommended Steamboy. This is the 2nd film by the director of Akira and I thought it was fantastic. I also saw Metropolis and all I could think was WOW! So to date, I must say that I think these two rank highly for me. As for the others I watched recently, Akira is still the cult classic, 1st to do what it did kind of thing (a la Babe Ruth if you will) Ghost in the Shell carries that torch, and Howl's Moving Castle is definitely my favorite Miyazaki film.

-In other news, I haven't forgotten about my final Derby picks, I'm still just not sure. Sooo I'll have to get back to you all. Hopefully I'll know by tomorrow or the next day. I have been a little too caught up with work, wedding, and in my free time when I'm not ready to pass out, I'm engrossed in The Godfather for my XBOX (trying to conquer Midtown is demanding). What a great game! Also, golf season is here, and I can't wait to get back out there, and hack up the turf this year! Hopefully, I'll be able to get more than one par on a hole by fall, but then again maybe no so much...

Twin Spires and Mint Juleps...

Hey kids, it's that time of the year again. Goose's favorite day of the year is fast approaching. That's right May 6th is Kentucky Derby day. For those of you who know me, I am an enormous fan of the "Sport of Kings" and the Triple Crown is a sacred happening annually for me. Now this year I have a wedding in the middle of the events, yet I am determined to pick the winner again. I am still waiting to see a triple crown champion and firmly believe that winning that trophy is arguably the most difficult thing in sports to accomplish. That said, I have been solid on Derby Day, picking the winner 8 out of the past 9 years (last year I proposed to Honey on Derby Day and thus missed the event for the first time in 15 years or so) Prepare for my triumphant return!! It's still a bit early, but my annual pick (as of right now) will be a superfecta: Barbaro, Brother Derek, Bob and John, Point Determined. That's it folks I'm boxing it up and I think after my scouting reports on these stunning colts I feel good about it. As for who is going to win... it's tough, it could be any one of these four. This is a very difficult year to choose. I am leaning towards the undefeated speedster Barbaro, but a Bob Baffert trained colt cannot be overlooked-hence Bob &John and Point Determined mentioned on my list. And then there's Brother Derek. He has won 4 of his last 5, with impressive finishes at Santa Anita and Santa Catalina. Soooooo what does it all mean? I don't have a clear cut winner yet. Stay tuned I'll let you know as the days go by.

FU#%ING Chuck Norris...

Hey kids, while watching Dodgeball last night for the first time, I found myself laughing uproariously at the Chuck Norris cameo. Many of you may be a bit puzzled by this, but I assure you there is a valid reason. You see, a while back while surfing the web I landed here and I haven't been the same since. Read through all the pages if you like, they are guaranteed to keep you rolling for quite some time.

-In other news I watched Ghost in the Shell again last night, and it's definitely a tough battle now for which anime I hold to be #1. I have some others to watch tonight then I'll get back to you.

-Other reports are now trickling in and yes Honey's first shower is tomorrow. She's excited and terrified at the same time. However, we're both quite sure that she'll have a great time. In the meantime I have decided that I should have a "shower" only I'll call it a "festival" and for all my guy friends out there, I'm "registered" at Best Buy, EB Games, COMPUSA, and Smokey Bones restaurant.(I'm a sucker for pulled pork) Of course I'm only being sarcastic, I'm still bitter that I lost the "registering" war to Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Happy Dyngus Day!!!

Hello kids, and happy Dyngus Day. Err... wait no I mean...Ok sorry about not posting yesterday to wish all a HAPPY EASTER!! I was too tired and my belly too distended (after two dinners) for me to get up and type. Therefore, you all get my Easter greetings today. I hope it was blessed for all.

-In other news, I went on a movie marathon this past weekend. Most notably I think was my decision to re-watch Akira, and I must say the animation is still absolutely stunning, but I remain as perplexed as ever about the ending. Much like all anime, this film begins as if its creators were smoking grass, but by the end it's clear that the drug of choice was opium all the long. Nevertheless, it is an enjoyable watch. Next week will be my re-viewing of Ghost in the Shell, and my final rankings of favorite anime. Also, at the advice of a good friend in Chicago, your favorite Rebalancer decided to download the Rome Total Realism mod for his PC game. WOW! It certainly is more realistic, especially in terms of AI advancement. Very cool to see the different units, locations, and hear the commanders speak in Latin! Also kind of a blast to trounce different civs. in their own homelands some as far away as India.

Ugggh...

Hi kids, Well the other day my Doctor told me that my cholesterol level was still outpacing the national debt... Therefore, he thought it would be best if I exercise more, and start taking medication to lower it. Oh yeah, annnnnnnd my diet has to be adjusted. In my defense there really isn't much of a diet to begin with. I eat a light breakfast and then have dinner. However, I have been slipping on the dinner and enjoying one too many a chick. parm. sub here, and a something else with cheese there. So fine let's just cut out all of the fun, and I'll enjoy my whole grain triscuits and dream of visits to La Tolteca, and its lovely Mexican, cheesy goodness.

And Down the Stretch They Come!!

Hey kids, Well things have been going along quickly. Honey and I are in the midst of final prep for the big day. We've got the wedding bands, (no I did not decide to go with The One Ring) the flowers are done, everything is set and ready to go, or maybe not, maybe we'll change everything again for the umpteen-millionth time. There's also the fact that there are some minor things like the license, and the church set-up and all that, but we'll get it done.

-In other news, I'm currently making a CD mix, my first in quite some time, and well it's going along swimmingly, though I wish Mobile would hurry up and release their album already (the end of April is too far away). Also let it be known that my good friend Sean and I came up with yet another Hollywood list last night. Name the most dreadful films. Now mind you, this does not necessarily mean that they are not fun to watch, or are not likeable, they're just plain bad movies. Some examples we came up with are: "Best of the Best", "Over the Top", "Showgirls", "Basic Instinct", "Top Gun" etc... Now you try.

An Acorn???

Hey kids, Honey and I just got finished watching Chicken Little. I must say we were more than merely amused. For a non-pixar Disney film, it was damn good. In fact I'll say it was the best I've seen since Lilo and Stitch. If you haven't had the chance, go rent it and laugh hysterically like I did at the character known as "Fish-out-of-water".

-In other news I just read about a new musical "artist" known as Matisyahu. Apparently he is a Hasidic Jew who performs reggae. I saw a clip on TV, and promptly shook my head. A Hasidic reggae artist...only in this fantastically stewed melting pot of America could that seemingly B-movie plot be a real life story. Now all I need to see is a Jamaican Passover Seder in a couple weeks! It would rank right up there in hilarity with my Irish friend's annual Kwanzaa party. (which by the way is an actuality, and having attended one, is an event I found to be quite tongue-in-cheek as the host intended) Vive le Difference!

The Eigth Wonder of the World...

Hi kids, I just got done watching Peter Jackson's King Kong and I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Mr. Jackson, bravo, you've done it yet again. There's really nothing I can say that I didn't like about the film. WETA's visuals were stunning, Jack Black=good. I was moved by the scenes between Naomi Watts and Kong, and I honestly felt bad for the big guy. For anyone who hasn't seen it, or chooses not to because they saw the original, go rent it anyway. The original is cinematic history, but this remake is timeless...
